How many sessions will I need?
A series of treatments is required to achieve a smoother, more youthful look. Depending on the degree of photodamage, we usually recommend 5-8 sessions, every 1 to 2 weeks, followed by maintenance sessions every 1 to 2 months, which prolong the benefits.
Am I a candidate for the treatment?
Acthyderm treatments can be performed on all skin types and can even be performed during the summer months, unlike photofacials. Of course, we recommend that you wear sunscreen every day to keep your skin protected.
We do not recommend this treatment for patients who are pregnant, nursing, have a medical device such as a pacemaker, are allergic to any of the treatment products, or who have an active wound or cold sore. If you have a history of cold sores (Herpes Simplex Virus) involving the area to be treated.
How will I look after a treatment?
Your skin will immediately look more hydrated. There is no down time and you can get back to normal activities immediately after your session. Depending on the area that has been treated, you will see marked facial and neck rejuvenation, improved texture and tone, improved skin hydration and reduction of fine lines.
What products are used during a treatment?
To name a few vitamins and nutrients that are used with facial treatments include:
- Vitamin A acid has been used for years by dermatologists to repair sun-damaged skin and improve the signs of aging. It evens out skin tone, fades hyper-pigmentation, builds collagen and stimulates cell turnover.
- Ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) is a potent antioxidant that helps repair and revitalize sun-damaged skin. It tightens the skin, and improves texture and tone.
- Alpha lipoic acid increases the potency of Vitamin C.
- Hyaluronic acid exists naturally in all living organisms and plays a role in tissue hydration, lubrication and cell function. It holds 1000 times its weight in water, which makes it ideal for replenishing, smoothing and softening skin and decreasing wrinkles.
- Multivitamins and trace minerals support the normal function of skin cell turnover and repair.
- Glycolic acid is derived from sugar cane and is a common ingredient in face and body creams. This alpha hydroxy acid renews the skin, decreases pores, evens skin tone, exfoliates old cells and fades brown marks.
- Vitamin B promotes a healthy glow, moisture retention, great for those with sensitive skin.
- DMAE also known as a facelift in a bottle improves skin tone and firmness.
How many treatments are required?
For the treatment to be successful, a series of 4-8 sessions is recommended on each part of the body, to insure that all the stages of the hair growth are disabled and the follicles are destroyed. Significantly the hair grows back thinner and weaker after each treatment, ultimately resulting in permanent hair reduction.
